IPL Salary Structure Explained: Players in the Indian Premier League have different salary rules. Find out how much money players who join teams mid-season receive.
What is the salary rule in IPL?
The IPL 2026 season has been in the news for various reasons. On one hand, there are young players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya, who have wreaked havoc with the bat. However, there are some cricketers who have rejoined their teams after missing the initial matches. For example, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood missed the first few matches but are now playing regularly. Have you ever wondered whether such players receive their full salary or if some amount is deducted for missing certain matches? Find out here what the salary rules are in the Indian Premier League.
Will the players get their full money?
If a player misses the first few matches of the season due to injury, personal reasons, or any other reason, the rules state that the player is paid the amount of matches they played. For example, Sunrisers Hyderabad's regular captain, Pat Cummins, missed seven matches in the season and will be paid accordingly.
However, if a player is injured during the tournament, the salary rules may be different. In such a case, the franchise will bear the entire medical expenses of the player, and even if the player is out for the entire season, the franchise will be obligated to pay the player the full amount.
How do players get their salaries?
According to available information, teams pay players in different ways. Some teams pay players 50 percent of their salary before the start of the season and the remaining 50 percent at the end of the season. Other teams pay the full amount to players in 3-4 installments.
