Stephen Fleming, who served as head coach from 2009 to 2026, has stepped down from his position and has now been appointed coach of the England Test team. CSK franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan has provided a significant update regarding the new coach. The franchise also clarified that there are no discussions currently underway regarding the trade of Hardik Pandya. Former captain MS Dhoni and current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad will be consulted before selecting a new coach.
'No decision on Hardik Pandya'
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has also clarified that there are no discussions currently underway regarding a trade for Hardik Pandya. It was believed that Chennai might show interest. The CEO stated that discussions on Pandya could take place after the new coach is appointed. However, if this happens, it would be the second consecutive year of a major deal for the team, as just last year, the team released Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran and acquired Sanju Samson.
Chennai Super Kings have clarified that no decision has been made regarding Hardik Pandya yet. The matter will be left to the new coach. According to Cricbuzz, franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, "We haven't started thinking about it yet. We will first select a coach. We have received calls from several interested candidates. We will sit down and make a final decision."
'The new coach could be a foreigner'
The report states that Viswanathan and CSK's full-time director Rupa Gurunath will finalize the new coach after consulting with MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad. If Hardik Pandya remains available for trade, it could be considered. According to Viswanathan, the new coach will likely be a foreign expert.
Earlier, a report suggested that Brendon McCullum could become Chennai's new head coach. There was speculation that McCullum, who had helped Fleming become the coach of the England Test team, could now assist him.
