Yusuf Pathan has responded to the NCPI's demand for the Bharat Ratna for Gyanesh Kumar. Pathan denied any letter in his name and demanded that evidence and a copy of the letter be made public.

Yusuf Pathan distanced himself from the letter demanding the Bharat Ratna.
A political controversy has erupted over the demand for the Bharat Ratna for Gyanesh Kumar. The Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi , urging him to recommend Gyanesh Kumar for the country's highest civilian honor. NCPI National President Jyotiprakash Chatterjee cited the West Bengal Assembly elections, voter list revisions, and the election process in the letter.
Baharampur MP Yusuf Pathan was enraged by this issue. He responded on the social media platform X. He said that people in Bengal, Murshidabad, Baharampur, and the country are raising their voices for their right to vote. At such a time, why would he recommend any awards?
Yusuf Pathan demanded that the letter be made public.
Yusuf Pathan denied any such recommendation being made in his name. According to him, he had not written any such letter. He stated that if any letter or recommendation is surfacing in his name, a copy of it should be made public. He urged those fabricating stories in his name to provide evidence. If there is a letter, a copy of it should be made public, otherwise, it should be considered a fraud and a misuse of his name.
What did NCPI write to PM Modi?
On September 30, the NCPI sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the Bharat Ratna for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party claimed that the election process during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections was peaceful and cited the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. NCPI President Jyotiprakash Chatterjee stated in the letter that the Election Commission-led electoral process strengthened people's faith in the democratic system. The party requested the Prime Minister to recommend Gyanesh Kumar's name to President Draupadi Murmu for the Bharat Ratna.
