Vaibhav Suryavanshi
IND vs ENG: 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his international debut for India in the second T20I against England . However, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was left out of the playing XI for his debut. Former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Ambati Rayudu have questioned this decision by the team management and expressed their support for Sanju.
Manjrekar said – Sanju could have played at number three.
Sanjay Manjrekar said that while Vaibhav Suryavanshi's debut for the Indian team is a great thing, leaving Sanju Samson out for this reason is incomprehensible. He believes that if the team wanted to give Vaibhav a chance, Sanju could have batted at number three.
He wrote on the social media platform X, "It's a joy to see Vaibhav playing in the Indian jersey. But what about Sanju Samson? He was dropped? Really? I hope he's injured, because if not, this selection is quite surprising. If Vaibhav had to be given a chance, Sanju could have batted at number three."
Sanju Samson, who played a key role in India's recent T20 World Cup win, was also named the Player of the Tournament. However, in the three T20 innings he played after the World Cup, he managed just 5, 0, and 1.
Vaibhav showed a glimpse in his debut match.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 14 runs off 10 balls in his first international match. In his short but impressive innings, he hit two magnificent sixes and displayed a sense of fearlessness.
Rayudu also supported Sanju.
Former Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu also expressed his support for Sanju Samson. He said that Vaibhav's debut should be welcomed, but Sanju's recent contributions should not be overlooked.
Rayudu wrote on X, "Let's also spare a thought for Sanju Samson. I was delighted to see Vaibhav's debut, and it's a moment worth celebrating. But let's not forget that Sanju was the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup, held just three T20 matches ago. I hope he makes a strong comeback, and wish Vaibhav Suryavanshi a long and record-breaking career."
England took the lead in the series
Speaking of the match, England defeated India by four wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. The first match was abandoned due to rain. Now, India will have to win the remaining three matches to stay in the series.
