UP DA Hike 2026: Yogi Government Raises Dearness Allowance to 60%, Employees to Get Arrears Too

The Uttar Pradesh government has delivered major financial relief to lakhs of state employees and pensioners by approving a fresh increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has cleared a 2 percent hike in DA, taking the total allowance from 58 percent to 60 percent.

The announcement is being seen as a major boost for government employees struggling with rising inflation and household expenses. Along with the revised DA, the government has also confirmed payment of pending arrears, which is expected to increase employee earnings significantly in the coming months.

Official Order Issued by Finance Department

The Uttar Pradesh Finance Department has already issued an official government order regarding the DA revision. According to the notification released by Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar, the revised 60 percent DA rate will be applicable from January 1, 2026.

This means employees and pensioners will not only receive higher monthly payments going forward, but they will also get arrears for the previous months.

The decision aligns Uttar Pradesh with the recent DA revision announced for central government employees under the 7th Pay Commission.

Who Will Benefit From the DA Increase?

The latest hike will benefit a large section of the state workforce and retired employees.

Those expected to receive the revised DA and DR include:

  • State government employees
  • Employees of aided educational institutions
  • Technical education institution staff
  • Urban local body employees
  • Lakhs of pensioners across the state

The decision is expected to impact nearly 16 lakh employees and pensioners directly.

Employees to Receive 4 Months’ Arrears

One of the biggest highlights of the announcement is the arrear payment.

Since the revised DA has been implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2026, employees will receive pending arrears for:

  • January 2026
  • February 2026
  • March 2026
  • April 2026

According to the government order, the arrears and revised salary amount are likely to be paid along with the May 2026 salary, which employees are expected to receive in early June.

How Much Could Salaries Increase?

Dearness Allowance is calculated as a percentage of an employee’s basic salary. Even though the increase is only 2 percent on paper, the actual rise in take-home salary may vary depending on pay level and grade.

For example:

  • Employees with higher basic pay may see a larger monthly increase
  • Pensioners will also receive improved Dearness Relief payments
  • Combined arrears could provide a sizable one-time financial benefit

The hike is expected to improve monthly income and provide support against rising living costs.

Why DA Revisions Matter

DA is an important salary component designed to offset the impact of inflation on government employees and pensioners.

Governments generally revise DA twice every year based on inflation trends and consumer price index data. The allowance helps employees maintain purchasing power as prices of food, fuel, housing, transport, and daily essentials rise over time.

In large states like Uttar Pradesh, even a small percentage increase in DA can create a major financial impact on the state budget because of the huge number of employees and pension beneficiaries.

Experts estimate that the latest hike may add several hundred crore rupees annually to the state’s expenditure.

UP Follows Centre’s DA Pattern

State governments usually follow the DA pattern announced by the central government.

Recently, the central government increased DA for its employees from 58 percent to 60 percent under the 7th Pay Commission framework. Following that move, several states including Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and now Uttar Pradesh have also revised their DA rates.

The 60 percent DA mark is being viewed as a major milestone for government employees, especially at a time when inflation and living expenses continue to rise.

Big Relief for Employees Amid Inflation

Government employees and pensioners have welcomed the announcement, calling it timely relief amid increasing prices of fuel, food, healthcare, and utilities.

The combined benefit of:

  • Higher monthly salary
  • Pension increase
  • Pending arrears

is expected to improve the financial condition of lakhs of families across the state.

With the revised DA now officially approved, employees in Uttar Pradesh can expect a noticeable jump in their earnings starting from the next salary cycle.
