The Pakistan Air Force released a video on Monday showcasing the Chinese-made HQ-17AE short-range air defense system. It's believed that Pakistan has struck a deal with China. This means that after the Chinese HQ-16 air defense system, deployed for Pakistan's defense, was destroyed in Indian attacks, Pakistan is now bringing this new air defense system to its country. The Pakistan Air Force has stated that it will ensure its security in future wars.

China's military experts claim that China has become another international country to use this system, which will help address the country's short-range air defense gap and enhance its ability to deal with low-altitude threats such as drones.

Speaking to Global Times, Chinese military affairs expert Wang Yunfei said that Pakistan has previously deployed China's HQ-9 Long Rand air defense system.

Wang says Pakistan has also incorporated China's HQ-16 series air defense systems. Together, these systems form the backbone of the Pakistan Army and Air Force's regional medium-to-long-range air defense network. These systems are crucial components of the national strategic air defense system.

Experts have said that short- to medium-range air defense systems are a key component of point defense, and Pakistan's capabilities in this area have room for improvement.

What are the special features of this new Chinese air defense system?

It was first unveiled at the 13th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China. It is an indigenously developed multi-functional air defense missile system developed by the Second Academy of the Chinese company China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation. It is capable of high-performance target interception and saturation attacks. It combines all functions in a single vehicle, equipped with a wheeled chassis for greater mobility. China's Global Times described it as a "Low Altitudes Aircraft Hunter." It utilizes a variety of advanced technologies, including an all-solid red-state phased array radar, a vertical cold launch missile system, a direct force fast turn system, and rotating tail wings.

The vehicle can launch missiles while in operation and can also network with other vehicles. The vehicle can carry up to eight missiles and can guide four missiles to attack four targets simultaneously. It has excellent capability to intercept multiple targets.
