Obesity is a complex and growing problem, which has a profound impact on physical and mental health. Lifestyle changes are necessary to solve this problem.

The problem of increasing obesity in India has now become a serious health crisis, which is not only affecting physical health but is also having a deep impact on mental health. This problem is increasing especially in urban areas, but now its effect is visible in rural areas as well.
Obesity can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, joint problems, and endocrine disorders in women such as PCOD and infertility. Reflecting on this growing problem, Professor of Cardiology Dr. Ambuj Roy, in an exclusive interview with IANS, gave important information about the causes of obesity, its effects and ways to deal with it.
According to Dr. Ambuj Roy, obesity is a complex problem, which is not only caused by food and lifestyle, but genes and environmental effects can also be responsible. He said that obesity in some children may be related to genes. Apart from this, changes in DNA due to pollution and stress can also increase obesity.
The relationship between obesity and mental health
Dr. Roy said about the relationship between obesity and mental health that both are two sides of the same coin. When people are stressed, they often do 'stress-related eating', that is, they start eating more. This cycle continues until the person becomes obese and feels a lack of self-esteem due to physical changes. Due to this, mental health is also deeply affected.
Ways to avoid obesity
According to Dr. Roy, the most effective way to deal with obesity is to change lifestyle. Making regular exercise and a balanced diet a part of your life can help overcome this problem. To avoid obesity, people should pay attention to their diet and also include physical activities in their daily routine. He also said that the effect of the lifestyle of western countries is now being seen in India as well, due to which Indian eating habits have also become like the American style. Due to this, cases of obesity are increasing.
Society and government initiatives
Obesity is no longer limited to urban areas, but its impact is increasing in rural areas as well. Dr. Roy said that every person has to improve his lifestyle, in which a balance of both diet and exercise is important. Apart from this, society and the government will also have to spread awareness on this issue so that people can take concrete steps to avoid this problem.
