Niru Dhanda will be India's flag bearer at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games. Shooter Niru won India's first individual gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Anjali Bhagwat, deputy chief of the Indian contingent, announced on Friday that Niru will return to Nagoya on Saturday morning. The male flag bearer will be announced later.

Neeru Dhanda won the first gold medal with the women's trap team. The trio of Manisha Kerr, Ashima Ahlawat, and Neeru won the silver medal in shooting. Neeru then won gold in trap shooting, India's first individual gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.

 

Neeru then won the gold medal in mixed trap shooting with Kynan Chenai. This brought Neeru's total medal tally to three, including two gold. It will be a proud moment for her to be India's flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

Neeru hails from Jind, Haryana, and comes from a poor family. Her father is a farmer. According to media reports, when Neeru won gold at the Asian Games, her mother was out to collect rations on her BPL card.

India's total medal tally reached 76

As of this writing, India has won a total of 76 medals at the 2026 Asian Games. Friday was a historic day, as the Indian women's hockey team defeated China in the final to win the gold medal.
