How did you get the back injury?

Neeraj Chopra himself revealed that in September, during a training session, he experienced a sudden jolt to the left side of his back while throwing a shot put. Afterward, he began having difficulty even walking. An MRI was performed in Prague for further investigation, which revealed a disc-related problem. In a high-intensity sport like javelin throwing, the back not only supports the body but also directly impacts performance. Therefore, a back injury can impact a player's strength, balance, and throw speed.

What causes disc problems?

Discs are cushion-like structures located between the spinal bones that absorb shock. When they are subjected to excessive pressure or stress, they can bulge outward, resulting in a herniated disc. According to medical research, this condition can put pressure on nerves, causing pain, numbness, and weakness in the back and legs. In many cases, this pain radiates to the legs in the form of sciatica.

Why can early withdrawal be dangerous?

Health experts believe that returning to the field too quickly after a serious injury significantly increases the risk of recurrence. Research shows that returning without physical, but also mental, preparation can be detrimental. This is why both Neeraj Chopra and the FI are reluctant to take any risks. He is currently undergoing rehab under the supervision of his coach and javelin legend, Jan Zelezny.
