The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that this is the first time since 2020 that the monsoon has arrived ahead of time in many parts of India.

As of June 29, the monsoon has covered:

Entire Delhi

Remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over many parts of northwest, central, east and northeast India over the next seven days.The monsoon season is crucial for agriculture in India, which sustains 42% of the population and contributes 18.2% to the national GDP.

Most regions are expected to receive normal or above normal rainfall, except:

Ladakh, parts of Himachal Pradesh, northeast India and some areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
