Mokshada Ekadashi 2025: Will the Fast Be on November 30 or December 1? Know the Exact Date, Rituals and Significance

Mokshada Ekadashi 2025 Date: Mokshada Ekadashi, observed during the Shukla Paksha of the Margashirsha month, is considered one of the most auspicious fasting days in Hindu tradition. Scriptures describe it as a sacred tithi that grants liberation from sins and leads the devotee towards the path of moksha. This day is also special because, according to mythology, Lord Krishna delivered the divine teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra on this very date. Hence, Gita Jayanti is celebrated on Mokshada Ekadashi.

This year, there is widespread curiosity among devotees on whether the fast should be observed on November 30 or December 1. Here is the accurate Panchang-based clarification.

When is Mokshada Ekadashi in 2025?

As per the Hindu Panchang, Mokshada Ekadashi will be observed on December 1, 2025 (Monday).

  • Ekadashi Tithi begins: November 30, 2025 at 9:29 PM
  • Ekadashi Tithi ends: December 1, 2025 at 7:01 PM

Since fasting is always performed on the basis of Udaya Tithi (the tithi prevailing at sunrise), the fast will be kept on December 1, 2025.

The Parana (breaking of the fast) should be performed on the following day, i.e., on Dwadashi, during the appropriate morning muhurat.

Why Mokshada Ekadashi Is Important

The word Mokshada literally means “that which grants liberation.” Scriptures mention several benefits of observing this Ekadashi:

  • It helps eradicate accumulated sins.
  • It frees the devotee from karmic bondage.
  • It blesses the observer with spiritual upliftment and liberation.
  • According to beliefs, the merit of this vrat also helps seven generations of ancestors attain peace and release from suffering.

This makes Mokshada Ekadashi one of the most spiritually powerful days in the lunar calendar.

Another reason for its importance is the celebration of Gita Jayanti. On this divine day, Lord Krishna imparted the wisdom of life, duty, righteousness, and liberation to Arjuna—teachings that later formed the Bhagavad Gita. Reading the Gita or reflecting on its verses on this day is said to multiply spiritual benefits
