What Is Andropause: Menopause is much talked about. With increasing age, not only women feel the hormonal changes but men also go through an uncomfortable situation. When does this happen, do men also feel mood swings like women, what to do if there is a problem? Regarding all such questions, news agency IANS spoke to Dr. Sameer Khanna, Director of Urology Department at CK Birla Hospital, Delhi.

What is andropause?
According to the senior urologist, andropause, often referred to as "male menopause" by common people, is not the same as menopause in women. Although they have some similarities. Andropause refers to the gradual decline in testosterone hormone levels with age in men, which usually begins around the age of 50 and gradually increases over the years.
Does it affect a man's 'strength'?
According to the doctor, it does not affect fertility. He said, unlike menopause, which marks the clear end of fertility in women, this does not happen in andropause. Andropause includes symptoms like fatigue, loss of libido, mood swings, loss of muscle mass, increase in fat. These changes are associated with falling testosterone levels, but they can also be aggravated by factors like stress, chronic illness or lifestyle habits.
Is there a need to be afraid of it?
On this question, the doctor said, "No, men should be aware of andropause but they need not necessarily "worry" about it. This is a natural process of aging, most people experience only mild symptoms.
Medical help
However, men who are having severe problems should seek professional advice. A blood test can determine testosterone levels, and if they are abnormally low, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) may be an option. TRT should only be used under the supervision of medical experts, as it can cause heart problems and increase the risk of prostate problems."
How to stay healthy?
Doctors also recommend adopting a healthy routine. He said, the effects of andropause can be prevented with regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep and stress management. Men should also prioritize regular health checkups to monitor overall health and address any emerging health concerns.
