Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update: Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has made a big statement about Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah. It is worth noting that Jasprit Bumrah got injured in the Sydney match during the Border Gavaskar Trophy, due to which he was out of the Champions Trophy. Bumrah is currently undergoing rehab at NCESS Center Bengaluru due to back injury and no official update has come out regarding Bumrah's return.
The Kiwi bowler and former Mumbai Indians bowling coach, who retired from international career at the age of 34 due to back injury, has expressed concern about Bumrah. He said that Bumrah's workload needs to be managed to keep him away from injury in future.
Former bowler Shane Bond further said that fast bowlers are most at risk of injury when they play Test cricket after playing a T20 series. He is also worried about Bumrah that after playing IPL, he will directly play the first series of the World Test Championship for India.
Team India's first assignment in WTC 2025-27
Actually, after the IPL 2025 ends on 25 May, India has to play a 5-match Test series against England. Bond further said that playing Tests after playing an ODI series is not as dangerous as returning to Test series cricket from a T20 series. India has to play a long five-match series against England from June 8 to August 3.
Bond said that India cannot put as much burden on Bumrah's head as the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series. Bumrah bowled 151.2 overs in 9 innings of the five-Test series, including 52 overs in the Boxing Day Test, which was the most overs bowled in a Test. He said that he wants Bumrah not to play more than two consecutive Test matches. Playing a Test series directly after the IPL can be a big risk for Bumrah.
Bumrah's career can end due to injury again
The former Kiwi bowler said that "Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler of Team India for the 2027 World Cup and WTC. The management can say that these are three or four Tests and he is absolutely fit for the heat of England, then you give him rest in the rest of the formats. The team will not do this because he is their best bowler. If he gets injured at the same place again, it can end his career because I don't know whether you can get surgery done there again or not."
