India's veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has raised questions on the Indian team selected for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Team India's wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson was not selected in the 15-member team for the Champions Trophy last week. The selectors expressed confidence in KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant only. Sanju Samson played his last ODI in the series against South Africa in December 2023. Rishabh Pant was recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident at that time. However, Sanju Samson was dropped from the 2024 series against Sri Lanka, while Rishabh Pant made a comeback in this format.

Harbhajan got angry on ignoring talented player

Interestingly, Sanju Samson has so far scored 510 runs in 16 ODIs at an average of 56.67. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has questioned Sanju Samson's being ignored for the Champions Trophy. Harbhajan Singh said that Sanju Samson's batting is 'suited' to the ODI format. Harbhajan Singh said, 'Actually, I feel bad for him. He (Sanju Samson) scores runs, but he is dropped from the team. I know you can only select 15 players, but I think his batting is suited to the ODI format.'

lashed out at the selectors

Harbhajan Singh said, 'His (Sanju Samson) average in the ODI format is 55-56, but he is not in the team even as a second wicketkeeper. When we talk about selecting him, people ask, whose place? A place can be made.' Apart from this, Harbhajan Singh also talked about ignoring Yuzvendra Chahal and said that the selectors should have considered a leg spinner for additional variety. Harbhajan Singh said, 'Sanju Samson is not in the team. Yuzvendra Chahal is also not in the team. You have selected four spinners, two of them are left-handed. You could have also included a leg spinner for variety. Yuzvendra Chahal is a great bowler. I don't know what he did wrong that he does not fit in this team.'

Yashasvi will not bat at number three or four

Harbhajan Singh believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been included in the ODI squad for the first time for the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy, should have opened the innings with Rohit Sharma. However, after Shubman Gill was made the Indian vice-captain, this possibility is less. Harbhajan Singh said, 'I thought Yashasvi would open, but now I don't think so. Shubman Gill is the vice-captain, so he will play and Yashasvi will not bat at number three or four, because Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer will be in those positions.'
