Indian Railways Shuts Down UTS App: Unreserved and Platform Tickets Now Available Only on RailOne

Indian Railways has rolled out a major digital transformation for millions of daily passengers. From March 1, 2026, the popular UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile application has been officially discontinued, and all its services have now been shifted to a single platform — the RailOne Super App.

This move marks a significant step toward simplifying railway ticketing and digital services by bringing everything under one unified application. Passengers who regularly book unreserved tickets, platform tickets, and season passes will now need to use RailOne exclusively.

Why Indian Railways Discontinued the UTS App

For years, railway passengers had to juggle between multiple apps — one for reserved tickets, another for unreserved travel, and separate platforms for additional services. According to railway officials, this fragmented system often caused confusion, technical issues, and inconvenience for users.

The decision to shut down the UTS app is part of Indian Railways’ broader digital integration strategy led by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). The goal is to offer passengers a seamless, all-in-one digital experience while reducing dependency on ticket counters and easing congestion at railway stations.

What Is the RailOne Super App?

Launched in July 2025, RailOne is designed as a comprehensive digital hub for railway passengers. Available on both Android and iOS, the app now serves as the single gateway for almost all passenger-related railway services.

Through the RailOne app, users can:

  • Book unreserved train tickets
  • Purchase platform tickets
  • Apply for or renew season passes
  • Book reserved tickets
  • Track live train running status
  • Order meals during travel
  • Make digital payments with up to 3% cashback or discounts

Railway authorities believe this consolidation will significantly reduce queues at ticket counters and improve transparency in ticketing operations.

What Happens to Existing R-Wallet Balance?

One of the biggest concerns among passengers after the UTS shutdown was about their R-Wallet balance. Indian Railways has clarified that no passenger money will be lost.

The remaining balance from the UTS app will be automatically transferred to the RailOne app. Passengers simply need to:

  1. Download the RailOne Super App
  2. Log in using the same mobile number and R-Wallet ID
  3. Wait for 24 to 48 hours for the balance to reflect

If any issue arises, users can seek assistance via the Railway Helpline 139 or raise a complaint through the in-app support system. Refunds can also be requested after adding bank details, if required.

Impact on Daily Commuters

This change is particularly important for passengers in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata, where millions depend on local trains every day. Season ticket holders do not need to worry — their active passes will automatically appear in the RailOne app.

However, railway officials have acknowledged that during the initial days, users may experience technical glitches or slowdowns due to high traffic. In rural areas, internet connectivity could pose a challenge, but QR-code-based ticket verification at stations will continue as before.

A Step Toward One-App Railway Services

With RailOne becoming the central digital platform, Indian Railways aims to modernize passenger services and make travel more convenient, faster, and paperless. Officials have assured that regular updates and performance improvements will continue to ensure a smoother experience for all users.
