Indian Army JAG Entry 2026: An Opportunity for Law Graduates to Become Army Officers, Apply Now

If you have completed your law degree and have a passion to serve the nation, the Indian Army's Judge Advocate General (JAG) department is ready to welcome you. This recruitment is conducted under the Short Service Commission (SSC), and unmarried male and female law graduates can apply.

Important Dates and Application Process

The online application process for this recruitment has already begun. The last date to apply is February 27, 2026 (until 3:00 PM). Interested candidates can register on the official website of the Indian Army, joinindianarmy.nic.in. Importantly, there is no application fee for this recruitment.

Eligibility and Educational Qualifications

To apply for this prestigious position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess an LLB degree (3-year or 5-year course) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • CLAT PG Score: A CLAT PG 2025 score is mandatory for this course. Candidates without this score will not be shortlisted for the SSB (Services Selection Board).
  • Bar Council Registration: The candidate must be eligible to be registered as an advocate with any State Bar Council or the Bar Council of India.
  • Age Limit: The candidate's age should be between 21 and 27 years at the time of application (as of July 1, 2026). This means the candidate must have been born between July 2, 1999, and July 1, 2005.
  • Selection Process: How will the selection be made?
  • There is no written examination for the JAG entry. The selection process is completed in three stages:
  • Shortlisting: First, candidates are shortlisted based on their CLAT PG score. SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for a 5-day Service Selection Board (SSB) interview. This interview is conducted at centers such as Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, and Jalandhar.
  • Medical Examination: Candidates who clear the interview must meet the stringent medical standards of the Indian Army.

Training and Salary

Successfully selected candidates will undergo 49 weeks of rigorous training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai. Upon completion of training, they are commissioned as Lieutenants. During training, candidates receive a stipend of approximately ₹56,100 per month. After commissioning, the annual CTC (Cost to Company), including salary and other allowances, can be approximately ₹17 to 18 lakhs.
