Income tax refund delayed? Have you made these mistakes?

Income Tax Refund: Every taxpayer must have filed their ITR by July 31, 2026, as that was the deadline. Now, after filing their returns, every taxpayer will be waiting for their refund. Many people may have already received their refund, but many taxpayers may still be waiting for their returns. If your refund hasn't arrived yet, don't ignore it. Sometimes, certain mistakes can cause a delay in receiving the refund. Therefore, it's best to understand some of the reasons behind the non-receipt of refunds.

Refund will not be given even if wrong details are provided.

If any discrepancies are found in salary, TDS, or other income information, the return may be scrutinized, which can also delay the refund's receipt. Furthermore, refund transfers can also fail if the IFSC code is incorrect or the bank account number is incorrect.

PAN card not linked to bank account

If you haven't linked your bank account to your PAN card, this could be a reason for your refund not arriving. To do this, first link your PAN card to your bank account.

Did you verify your ITR or not?

  • If you are thinking that the return will come after filing ITR then you are wrong.
  • For this, it is also necessary to e-verify the return.
  • If you do not complete this process, the Income Tax Department does not start processing the return.
  • Refund is received only after e-verification.

Is there any mistake in your PAN card?

If there's a discrepancy between the name on your bank account and the name on your PAN card, the bank may reject the refund transfer. Refunds are only sent to accounts where all the information is correct.

There will be a problem even if there are previous tax dues.

  • You have tax dues from any previous assessment year.
  • In such a case, the Income Tax Department may deduct the earlier tax dues from your existing refund.
  • Due to this, you will either get the refund late or you will get a lesser refund.
