Hormuz Supply Crisis: Inflation could be a shock to people this summer. Due to the Iran-US war, even your cold drinks could become more expensive. Find out why.

Cans disappeared from the market amid the heat.
Hormuz Crisis Aluminum Supply: As the heat increases, the demand for cold drinks also increases. Everyone turns to cold drinks to beat the heat, and if you're a fan of cold drinks, this news may make you a little sad. The effects of the ongoing Iran-US conflict are now visible even in Delhi's shops. Diet cold drink cans are disappearing from stores here.
Not only this, if the situation does not improve, then in the coming days, the public may have to shell out more for normal cold drinks. Naveen Sharma, a cold drink distributor in Laxmi Nagar, East Delhi, while talking to ABP News, said, “In the last ten days, the temperature has risen by 10 degrees, hence the demand has increased by 50-60 percent, but it is also true that stock is not coming back.”
The supply of cold drink cans was badly affected.
Naveen further explained that other cold drinks like normal cola and orange are still available in distribution, but the supply of diet cold drink cans has been severely affected. Naveen Sharma said, "Drinking cans of diet cold drinks has become fashionable among young people these days. However, the Iran-US war has disrupted the entire supply chain of diet cold drink cans."
According to the distributor, the real problem lies with aluminum coming from Gulf countries. The distributor explained that India imports 10-15 percent of its aluminum from Gulf countries, which is used to make cans. The war has held up many shipments, leading to a near halt in the supply of cans.
Aluminum supply stalled
Giving an example of how this aluminum supply disruption has affected his business, Naveen said, "It's like I placed 100 percent of my orders, but now I'm only getting 50 percent. Big businesses are facing even more problems."
So, will normal cold drinks also become more expensive, along with diet cold drinks? The distributor's answer was clear: "If the cost of anything made from petroleum or aluminum increases, the burden will ultimately fall on the consumer. There's a chain: company, distributor, shopkeeper, and then consumer. If it costs the company, they'll have to sell at a higher price."
The distributor further said that earlier a 300 ml can was available in restaurants for Rs 40, but now the supply of big cans has reduced because the supply of aluminium has almost stopped, and from what is left, only small size cans are being made and coming into the market.
Prices of drinks in plastic bottles may increase.
The distributor also acknowledged that if the war doesn't stop and the situation doesn't return to normal, the prices of plastic-bottled drinks could be affected in the coming days. However, diet cold drink cans are currently experiencing the most pressure. He further added that these four summer months are the most important for distributors. If goods aren't sold during this peak season, they will suffer losses; their business relies heavily on these four months. Currently, the company is trying to restore supplies, but no one can predict when the war will end.
Overall, it's clear that the impact of this war is now being felt even in the soft drinks industry. With aluminum supplies halted, cold drink lovers in many cities, including Delhi, are now scrambling for cans of diet cola drinks. The heat is rising, and drinkers' thirst is increasing, but cans are becoming scarce. The war has now reached your refrigerator.
