Which District in Bihar Has the Highest AIDS Cases : The latest data on HIV/AIDS in Bihar has raised concerns. The number of HIV-infected people in the state has now surpassed one lakh.

Health Minister Mangal Pandey informed the Legislative Council that 100,044 people have tested positive for HIV so far. This revelation came after Dr. Rajvardhan Azad and other members introduced a resolution demanding answers from the government on this issue. Let us explain why cases are increasing in Bihar. 

Which people have the most cases?

According to information presented in the House, 13 districts in Bihar have been classified as "high-risk," where the rate of infection is faster than normal. Looking at the data, the capital, Patna, tops the list, with 8,270 confirmed AIDS cases so far. This is followed by Gaya with 5,760 cases, Muzaffarpur with 5,520 cases, Sitamarhi with 5,026 cases, Begusarai with 4,716 cases, and Bhagalpur with 3,078 cases. These figures clearly indicate that the burden of infection is higher in urban and densely populated areas.

Why are cases increasing?

Questions are being raised as to why this situation is becoming so serious in some districts. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, lack of awareness, not getting tested in time, people moving between areas, and having unsafe physical relations can all play a role in the spread of this infection. However, the government claims to have strengthened testing and counseling facilities. Currently, 196 Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers are operating in various government health institutions across the state, where free HIV testing and counseling are available.

Government assistance to victims

The government also provides financial assistance to those infected. Under the "Bihar Shatabdi AIDS Peedit Kalyan Yojana," each HIV-infected person receives a monthly assistance of ₹1,500. Additionally, two dependent children under the age of 18 receive ₹1,000 per month.

In the 2025-26 financial year, ₹63.81 crore has been transferred directly to beneficiary accounts by December 2025. The government maintains its commitment to prevention, treatment, and awareness-raising. However, rising figures indicate that greater vigilance and widespread awareness campaigns are needed, especially in high-risk districts, including Patna, to control the spread of the infection.
