Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of the bright fortnight of Ashadha month. This year, the festival will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29th. It will be celebrated under the auspicious influence of Uttarashadha Nakshatra and Preeti and Ayushmaan Yoga. In Sanatan Dharma, the Guru is given a higher status than God. It is believed that with the Guru's grace, one attains peace, happiness, and salvation in life. 

Chaturmas pilgrimage of saints and sages

From Guru Purnima to Chaturmas, wandering saints and sages reside in one place, spreading the message of knowledge. The Chaturmas period is also considered favorable for study and spiritual practice, with neither extreme heat nor extreme cold. According to religious belief, just as rain cools the parched earth and empowers it to produce crops, similarly, seekers who reside at the feet of their Guru gain knowledge, peace, devotion, and yogic powers.

The festival of Guru Purnima is associated with Ved Vyas.
According to religious beliefs, Ved Vyas was born on Ashadha Purnima, the son of the sage Parashara and the goddess Satyavati. At the behest of Lord Ganesha, he composed the epic Mahabharata. Ved Vyas classified the Vedas into four sections. For this reason, Ashadha Purnima is also known as Vyas Purnima. The festival of Guru Purnima is considered a symbol of respect for him and gratitude to the guru tradition.

The auspicious time for Guru Purnima
is Labh-Amrit Muhurta (Laabh-Amrit Muhurta) from 5:16 AM to 8:36 AM. 
The auspicious Yoga Muhurta is from 10:16 AM to 11:56 AM.
The Abhijit Muhurta is from 11:29 AM to 12:22 PM.
