Team India has the upper hand in the second Test match being played between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. India declared their first innings at 503-9. In response, Sri Lanka lost 8 wickets for 265 runs at the end of the third day's play. At one point, it seemed Sri Lanka would be all out today, Tuesday, and even forced to follow on, but Sonal Dinusha (85 not out) and Pasindu Suriyabandara (80) batted brilliantly to save their team.

The Sri Lankan team is still 238 runs behind India. If Sri Lanka follows on, the result of this match could be decided on Wednesday. At stumps, Sonal Dinusha was on 85 runs from 137 balls. He has hit 6 fours and 2 sixes. Lahiru Kumara was on 8 runs from 50 balls. He has hit 1 four. For India, fast bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar took three wickets each. Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket.

Sri Lanka still needed 39 more runs to avoid the follow-on. Sri Lanka finished the third day at 265 for 8 after facing 83.4 overs. Rain forced an early end to play on the third day. The hosts had managed only 8 for 2 at the end of the second day, before suffering their third wicket loss in the form of Kamil Mishara (19) at the score of 35. From there, Pasindu Suriyabandara added 87 runs for the fourth wicket with captain Dhananjaya de Silva to take the team to 122. Mendis was dismissed for 32, leaving the team at 173 for 7.

From here, Sonal Dinusha took charge. She and Kesara Nuvantha added 57 runs for the eighth wicket. Nuvantha was dismissed for 18, after which Sonal, along with Lahiru Kumar (8 not out), put on an unbroken 35-run partnership for the ninth wicket to keep the team's hopes alive. Currently, Sonal remains unbeaten on 85 off 137 balls, hitting two sixes and six fours.
