Goverdhan Puja 2025: Govardhan Puja, the day after the five-day Diwali festival, is celebrated as Annakut, the festival that commemorates Lord Krishna's message of worshipping nature. This year, Goverdhan Puja will be celebrated on October 22nd.

The Pratipada Tithi of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of Kartik month begins at 5:54 pm on October 21st and ends at 8:16 pm on October 22nd. Govardhan Puja should be performed when it is neither dark nor has the sun lost its rays.

This festival is extremely important for those whose mind is not stable, whose heart is not calm, and who are always distracted. Even if you go to bed late after worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, you must perform Govardhan Puja with complete devotion.

Importance of Govardhan Puja as described in the scriptures

In the scriptures and Vedas, this day includes the worship of Bali, Govardhan Puja, cow worship, and Annakut. It is also customary to worship deities like Varuna, Indra, Agnidev, etc. Once, enraged, Lord Indra caused a continuous downpour of rain for seven days.

But Shri Krishna saved Braj by lifting Govardhan mountain on his little finger and Indra had to apologize to him after feeling ashamed.

Govardhan Puja auspicious time

Govardhan Puja symbolizes the worship of nature. Centuries ago, Lord Krishna explained that humans can only be happy if they keep nature happy. We should consider nature as divine and worship nature as divine, and protect nature under all circumstances.

This time, the auspicious time for Govardhan Puja will be from 6:30 AM to 8:47 AM. Preeti Yoga and Lakshmi Yoga are also present on this day. This is auspicious for worship and auspicious events.

By worshipping Lord Govardhan with a true heart and following the rituals on this day, one remains blessed by Lord Shri Krishna throughout the year.

Method of Govardhan Puja

One form of Lakshmi is Annapurna. A home where Goddess Annapurna resides permanently will be filled with happiness, prosperity, and peace. Therefore, on this day, wake up before sunrise and sweep your house first thing in the morning.

From inside the house to the outside, sweep away all the poverty and bad luck. After sweeping, enter the house from outside, ringing a plate. Imagine Goddess Lakshmi arriving at your home.

Then after taking bath etc., take cow dung or soil and make a small mountain and sail on the door frame of the main door of the house and worship them considering them as the form of Govardhan.

Then, apply a saffron and vermillion tilak, offer rice grains, flowers, and offer any offering as naivedya. Then, with folded hands, pray that Goddess Lakshmi may always reside in our home and that her kind glance and blessings remain with us forever.

Also, prepare 56 offerings or Annakut on this day and offer them to Lord Krishna and Govardhan Maharaj and pray to them that like these 56 offerings, our plate of life should also be decorated with every taste of happiness and your blessings should remain with us.

To increase wealth accumulation, place 5 Gomati Chakras and 5 cowries on a plate during Govardhan Puja and worship them with roli and rice. After the puja, collect them, tie them in a red cloth, and store them in your safe.

To increase good fortune - At the time of Govardhan Puja, make a bundle by taking a lump of turmeric, a Gomati Chakra, cowrie, Gunjaphal and 5 Mukhi Rudraksha and after the puja, keep that bundle in the temple of your house, in the safe, in the cash box of the office or in your purse.

To obtain happiness from children and receive happiness from them, prepare Panchamrit on this day using milk, yogurt, honey, sugar, and ghee. Then, mix it with Ganga water and Tulsi. Fill a conch shell with it and offer it to Lord Krishna. Chant the mantra "Kleem Krishna Kleem" five times. After chanting, all members of the household should consume the Panchamrit. Also, donate green vegetables to the temple on this day.
