During this meeting, Gambhir presented the Home Minister with a statue of Lord Ganesha. Gambhir shared a separate photo of the statue as he presented it. It's worth noting that Gautam Gambhir, the current head coach of Team India, is also a former Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Responsibility of head coach for the Indian cricket team

Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian cricket team nearly two years ago, in July 2024. Under his coaching, the Indian team has won numerous trophies. Team India recently played a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan under his leadership. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Team India won the series 3-0. Abhishek Sharma's bat was the star of the series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. He set a major record by scoring a century in just 30 balls in the final match, becoming the fastest player to score a century in a T20 International for any full-time team.

Team India's big trophy under Gambhir's coaching

Under Gambhir's coaching, Team India won the 2025 Champions Trophy. The following year, the Men in Blue won the 2026 T20 World Cup. Along with these achievements, Team India has also set some embarrassing records under Gambhir's coaching. They lost their first Test series against New Zealand on home soil. The team's performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was also poor.
