Amid the ongoing debate between Starlink and Reliance over India's satellite internet market, American journalist and political analyst Fareed Zakaria has taken aim at Elon Musk, saying he has chosen the wrong time to advise Indians.
According to Zakaria, Musk failed to understand that trust in the US is waning in much of the world, including India. This comment comes at a time when debate is raging in India over regulations, data security, and competition in the internet market surrounding Starlink's services.
Musk accuses Indian industrialists of trying to monopolize
Earlier, Elon Musk alleged on the social media platform X that a select group of industrialists in India seek to maintain a monopoly on the internet and are attempting to block Starlink's launch. Musk stated that preventing Starlink from operating in India would be a crime against the Indian public. His statement is being seen in the context of competition in India's telecommunications market and the controversy surrounding the approval of Starlink's services.
Rahul Gandhi reposted Musk's post.
Amidst the ongoing debate over licensing Starlink in India, Elon Musk posted another post. He questioned why Starlink is not being granted a license in India. Is Ambani the real boss of India? Musk's post was immediately reposted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He wrote, "Elon Musk, welcome to India. Wait for the other guy to know." Elon Musk also responded to Rahul Gandhi's post. He thanked Rahul Gandhi and said, "This is really worrying."
The Indian government said that there should be equal rules for everyone in the telecom sector.
Following Musk's allegations, the Indian government's Ministry of Telecommunications clarified its position on the regulations. According to the ministry, the rules and regulations are the same for all companies providing telecommunications services in India. Any company wishing to start a business in this sector must meet the necessary regulatory requirements. The government clarified that companies obtaining licenses for satellite communications (SATCOM) services must adhere to established data security standards. The ministry stated that the licensing process does not discriminate against any company. This means that Starlink will have to meet the same requirements as other companies to launch services in India.
