How Long Can Eggs Be Frozen? Many women decide to delay conceiving due to career or other reasons. To achieve this, they freeze their eggs. Let's find out how long this can last.
For how many years has egg freezing been done?
How Long Can Women Freeze Their Eggs? Many women today plan to become mothers in the future, but the right time isn't the same for everyone. Sometimes, a lack of a suitable partner, a focus on career, the pursuit of other life goals, or a medical condition can make it impossible to become a mother immediately. In such a situation, egg freezing, or preserving eggs for the future, has emerged as an option.
Egg freezing, medically known as cryopreservation, involves removing a woman's eggs and freezing them using special techniques to allow for the possibility of pregnancy later through IVF. This method may also be beneficial for women undergoing chemotherapy, severe endometriosis treatment, gender-affirming surgery, or other medical conditions that may affect fertility.
Which women can undergo egg freezing?
According to Hopkins Medicine, a health information organization, egg freezing isn't necessary or beneficial for every woman. Doctors consider several factors, including a woman's age, health, and fertility. For example, if a woman has cancer, it's important to determine if it's time to complete egg freezing before beginning treatment.
However, in most cases, the most important factor is a woman's age. As age increases, both the number and quality of eggs decrease. Women typically experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, and egg production stops. According to experts, the number of eggs begins to decline rapidly after age 37, and by age 43, approximately 90 percent of eggs are no longer suitable for pregnancy. Therefore, egg freezing before age 40 is considered preferable.
How long can eggs remain frozen?
According to a report from the Pacific Fertility Center, modern technology allows for long-term preservation of eggs. Experts suggest that properly frozen eggs can be preserved for many years, and some countries have discussed allowing them to be stored for up to 55 years. According to the report, scientists have also found success in cases where conception was possible using eggs frozen for 10 to 14 years.
How much does it cost in India?

Typically, the process of retrieving and freezing eggs can cost anywhere from 50,000 to 1.5 lakh rupees.
