Union Cooperative Minister Amit Shah announced a life insurance company called CLIC on Monday. This company will expand the business scope of cooperative organizations. Shah stated, "There are approximately 850,000 cooperative organizations in India, with over 300 million members." He also stated that due to the success of the cooperative cab service model "Bharat Taxi," this insurance company will be modeled after it.
He said, "We will set up a life insurance company in the cooperative sector, similar to Bharat Taxi. This will help in the development of cooperative institutions in the insurance sector."
Benefits of the New Insurance Company
During this discussion, Amit Shah also stated that after the formation of this new life insurance company, insurance services will be easily accessible to the approximately 300 million members of cooperative societies. This will benefit millions of farmers across the country who are associated with Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS). They will now be able to purchase and claim insurance policies directly from their nearest cooperative center. They will no longer have to travel to large cities or banks.
'Bharat Taxi' will be expanded.
During this event, Amit Shah also said that this decision has been taken considering the response 'Bharat Taxi' is getting in the country. According to Shah, 'Bharat Taxi', the cab service platform launched under the cooperative model, has performed well and will be expanded to 500 cities in the next two years. Currently, Bharat Taxi has 6.37 lakh registered drivers and 35.77 lakh registered customers. Therefore, it is going to be expanded to other new cities in the coming time.
