CBSE Class 12 Compartment Exam 2026 Rescheduled to July 28; Registration Open Until July 8

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the schedule for the Class 12 Compartment Examination 2026, postponing the exam and opening the application process for eligible candidates. Students who wish to improve their performance or clear a compartment subject can now submit their applications within the prescribed deadline.

The revised timetable has, however, triggered concerns among many students, who fear that the delayed examination could affect their college admission plans due to a later declaration of results.

CBSE Revises Class 12 Compartment Exam Date

CBSE has officially rescheduled the Class 12 Compartment Examination 2026.

Earlier, the examination was scheduled to be conducted on July 15, 2026. Under the revised timetable, it will now be held on July 28, 2026.

Along with the updated schedule, the board has started accepting applications from eligible students. The last date to submit applications is July 8, 2026.

Who Can Apply for the Compartment Examination?

The compartment examination is open to eligible students falling under the following categories:

  • Students who appeared for the CBSE Class 12 Board Examination 2026 and wish to improve their performance in one subject.
  • Students who were placed in the compartment category after failing in one subject in the 2026 board examination.
  • Students from the 2025 compartment batch who are eligible for another attempt. According to CBSE rules, this will be their third and final opportunity to clear the subject.

Candidates should ensure they meet the eligibility conditions specified by CBSE before submitting their application.

Application Process Through the Sangam Portal

CBSE has instructed affiliated schools to submit the List of Candidates (LOC) for eligible students through the Sangam Portal.

Important application details:

  • Application submission mode: Sangam Portal (through affiliated schools)
  • Last date to submit LOC: July 8, 2026 (11:59 PM)

Where permitted under CBSE guidelines, eligible candidates may also be able to submit applications individually.

Students are advised to contact their respective schools to complete the registration process well before the deadline.

CBSE Class 12 Compartment Examination Fee

The examination fee varies depending on the candidate's location.

CategoryExamination Fee
Students in India₹300
Students in Nepal₹1,100
Students studying outside India₹2,200
Visually impaired candidatesExempt from examination fee

Applicants should verify payment instructions and applicable guidelines while completing the registration process.

Why Are Students Concerned About the New Schedule?

The revised examination date has led to concerns among many students, particularly those planning to seek admission to colleges and universities during the current academic session.

According to students, holding the compartment examination on July 28 could delay the declaration of results until August. By then, admissions to many universities, professional institutions, and higher education programmes may already be completed.

Many candidates believe this could reduce the practical benefit of appearing for the compartment examination if they are unable to secure admission in the ongoing academic year.

Students Seek Alternative Relief

Following the revised schedule, some students have appealed to CBSE to consider suitable relief measures, including requests for grace marks or other alternatives that could minimise the impact of the delayed examination and result declaration on higher education admissions.

The board has not announced any decision regarding these requests so far.

Students Should Follow Official CBSE Updates

Candidates are advised to complete their applications before the July 8 deadline and regularly check official CBSE notifications for any further updates regarding the examination schedule, admit cards, and result announcements.

Those appearing for the compartment examination should also remain in touch with their schools to ensure all registration formalities are completed on time.
