8th Pay Commission: The 8th Pay Commission is holding meetings in various parts of the country, seeking input from various employee unions, organizations, serving employees, pensioners, and other stakeholders. In this regard, two-day consultation meetings are scheduled for April 22-23 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Previous meetings have been held in Delhi, Hyderabad, Srinagar, and Ladakh.

The notification for the meeting to be held in Lucknow was released on the official website of the 8th Pay Commission on May 21, 2026. This visit by the Commission, constituted by the central government on November 3, 2025, is a major step towards finalizing the pay, allowances, and pension structure for over 11 million central government employees and pensioners across the country.

What issues will be discussed?

It is being reported that during the two-day marathon meetings in Lucknow , representatives of employee organizations may present their views on the minimum basic salary and the new fitment factor to the Commission. They are likely to demand that the fitment factor in the 7th Pay Commission was 2.57, and now they are demanding an increase to 3.68-3.83. If the Commission accepts the demand for a 3.83 fitment factor, the minimum basic salary of central employees will increase from ₹18,000 to ₹69,000 per month.
