The second phase of the 8th Pay Commission has begun. The Commission held talks with employee representatives and organizations in Delhi. During this meeting, several demands and issues were raised. Salary increases, including the fitment factor, pension increases, and more leave were demanded. Now, the Commission will travel to various states across the country to listen to the demands of employee unions and engage in dialogue with them. In a meeting held two days ago, some employee organizations made another major demand regarding dearness allowance. This will greatly benefit millions of employees and pensioners.

Dearness allowance every three months?

The Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS) has placed a significant demand before the Commission regarding dearness allowance (DA). According to current rules,  the government increases dearness allowance twice a year, i.e., every six months. However, the BPS has demanded that the government increase DA four times a year, i.e., every three months. If such a decision is reached, it will be a significant relief for pensioners. This is the first time such a demand has been made regarding DA. Now, everyone's attention is focused on the new Pay Commission's decision on this issue.

1. Add dearness allowance to basic salary

The Pensioners' Association has demanded that the Dearness Allowance (DA/DR) be increased to 25%. DA and DR should be credited to the basic salary. This will significantly increase the basic pension and pension allowance. Therefore, employees and pensioners will benefit from this later.

2. End discrimination among pensioners

The BPS has made another demand. According to it, there should be no discrimination between pensioners who retired before January 1, 2026, and those who retire after that. There should be complete equality in pension revisions. This will greatly benefit pensioners.

Now the 8th Pay Commission is visiting this city.

The new Pay Commission met in Delhi. The Commission will now meet in Jaipur on August 31 and September 1, 2026. After hearing the demands of employee unions in Jaipur, Commission members will hold discussions with unions and representatives in Chennai, Puducherry, and Chandigarh. The Commission had requested approximately 17 months from the government to complete its work. The Commission has already completed many of its tasks nine months in advance. According to one estimate, the Commission will submit its report between March and May 2027.
