2BHK rent is ₹70,000 and deposit is ₹4 lakh; Bengaluru rents break records

Finding a home in Bengaluru is no longer just about choosing the right location. Rising rents and hefty security deposits are also a constant topic of discussion. A Reddit user recently shared his home-hunting experience, sparking an online debate about Bengaluru's rental market.

According to the user, he was asked to pay a monthly rent of around 70,000 rupees and a deposit of around 3-4 lakh rupees for a 2BHK apartment in Bengaluru. The flat was close to his office and offered a good view from the balcony, but he found several shortcomings regarding the amenities and room size.

The flat was near the office, but the facilities disappointed me.

In a Reddit post, the user explained that the apartment he viewed was within walking distance of his office. He liked the living room decor and the view from the balcony. Because of this, he was even considering paying a higher rent than usual for the property. However, after viewing the apartment, he discovered some shortcomings.

According to the user, both bedrooms were not large enough to comfortably accommodate a queen-size bed and a work desk. The flat was described as fully furnished, but the user claimed that there was only one bed, two sofas, and a small TV inside. Essential items like a refrigerator, washing machine, dining table, and second bed were missing.

The offer of Rs 65,000 rent was also not accepted.

According to the user, the landlord was demanding a monthly rent of around 70,000 rupees, including maintenance. He also asked for a deposit of 3-4 lakh rupees and a rent increase of approximately 7-8 percent annually. He was also told that some nearby landlords demand annual increases of up to 10 percent.

The Reddit user then offered a monthly rent of 65,000 rupees and a three-month deposit, but this was not accepted. Ultimately, he decided against purchasing the flat.

Are tenants paying such a large amount easily?

In his post, the user not only questioned the price of the flat but also expressed concern about the rental market in Bengaluru. He said that jobs and income don't always remain constant, while rent and other expenses can constantly increase. He advised tenants not to base their decision on purchasing a home solely on the monthly rent. It's also important to consider the room size, available furniture, maintenance, deposit, future rent increases, and compare prices with similar properties nearby.

Comparison with an apartment in France

Many Reddit users shared their opinions on this post. Some said that if tenants are willing to pay such a high amount, landlords will continue to demand higher prices. Others pointed out that negotiating isn't always easy for tenants.

One user even compared the Bengaluru rent to his apartment in France, saying it was cheaper there. This comment sparked further discussion online.
