Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma Officially Divorced, Court Grants Approval

On Thursday, March 20, the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai finalized the divorce proceedings between Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma. Both arrived separately for the hearing, with Chahal reaching the court first, dressed in a black jacket and wearing a mask, accompanied by his legal team. Dhanashree followed shortly after, wearing a white T-shirt and also covering her face with a mask. A large media presence gathered to capture their reactions, but neither of them spoke about the matter.

Married for Four Years

Chahal and Dhanashree tied the knot on December 24, 2020. However, rumors of trouble in their relationship surfaced a few months ago when they unfollowed each other on Instagram. Speculation grew until last month, when the couple officially initiated divorce proceedings. They had initially requested an exemption from the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, but the Family Court denied their plea.

Financial Settlement of ₹4.75 Crore

Following this, they approached the Bombay High Court, which ruled on March 19, directing the Family Court to expedite the case and finalize the divorce by March 20. The High Court granted them an exemption from the cooling-off period after considering their claim of living separately for the past two and a half years. As part of the settlement, Chahal agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore as alimony to Dhanashree. He has already paid 50% of the amount, with the remaining sum to be transferred soon.
