Yogi Adityanath Warns Against Offering Namaz on Roads, Says “Rules Must Be Followed”

Yogi Adityanath has once again sparked political debate after making strong remarks about offering namaz on public roads in Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister stated that prayers should be conducted in a regulated manner and suggested that arrangements such as multiple shifts could be used if space becomes an issue. He also warned that authorities would first try to convince people peacefully, but stricter measures could be taken if public order rules are violated.

“Roads Are Meant for Movement,” Says Yogi

In a video shared on social media platform X, Yogi Adityanath said that roads are meant for public movement and should not be blocked for religious activities.

The Chief Minister questioned whether anyone should be allowed to stop traffic or create obstacles at public intersections.

According to him, no individual or group has the right to disrupt daily movement and inconvenience the public.

CM Suggests Prayer in Shifts

Addressing concerns regarding large gatherings for prayers, Yogi Adityanath suggested that namaz could be organized in shifts when necessary.

He stated that if space constraints exist, arrangements should be managed accordingly instead of allowing overcrowding on roads.

The CM emphasized that the administration would not stop anyone from praying, but public spaces should not be misused in a way that affects traffic and daily life.

“Law Applies Equally to Everyone”

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also stressed that the rule of law applies equally to all citizens regardless of religion.

He said the government’s responsibility is to ensure public order and prevent disruptions in common spaces.

According to Yogi, religious freedom should not come at the cost of inconvenience to the public.

Political Reactions Expected

The remarks are likely to trigger political reactions from opposition parties and community groups, especially because the issue of public religious gatherings has remained politically sensitive in India.

Yogi Adityanath has previously raised similar concerns during election campaigns and public rallies, particularly while criticizing opposition parties over alleged appeasement politics.

Earlier Remarks During Bengal Campaign

During campaign events related to the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, Yogi Adityanath had accused Mamata Banerjee and All India Trinamool Congress of allowing prayers on roads while allegedly imposing restrictions during Hindu festivals.

Those comments had also generated sharp political reactions at the time.

Debate Over Public Religious Gatherings Continues

The issue of conducting religious gatherings on roads and public spaces has frequently led to debate across different Indian states.

Supporters of stricter regulation argue that public infrastructure should remain free for transportation and emergency movement, while critics often raise concerns regarding selective enforcement and religious freedom.

The latest statement by Yogi Adityanath is expected to further intensify discussions around governance, public order, and the use of shared civic spaces in India.
