Yashasvi left Mumbai in the middle of IPL, will now play domestic cricket for Goa

Indian cricket team and Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken a big decision and decided to leave Mumbai in the middle of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Writing an email to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday, Jaiswal has sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to change his state cricket team from Mumbai to Goa from the next season.

An MCA source confirmed, "He has asked us for an NOC and cited personal reasons for moving to Goa."

People close to Jaiswal also confirmed that he wants to move from Mumbai to Goa. At the age of 23, this will be a big step for Jaiswal, especially when Goa has qualified for the knock-out stage. He follows in the footsteps of players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who have represented Goa in their careers. Jaiswal played for Mumbai last season when the Indian board directed players to play domestic matches in case of no international matches.

He represented Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir where he scored 4 and 26. Earlier this year, Jaiswal, who was left out of India's Champions Trophy squad but was included in the list of non-travelling substitutes, was again included in the Mumbai Ranji squad ahead of their semi-final clash with Vidarbha on February 17.

However, the player opted out of the match on the eve of the match citing a sore ankle. Jaiswal has been playing for Mumbai since his Under-19 days and came into the limelight after scoring a double century for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy a few seasons ago. His efforts in domestic cricket enabled him to make it to the Indian national team two years ago and he has not looked back since then. The explosive left-handed opener also impressed in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 391 runs in five Tests at an average of 43.44, including a century and two half-centuries.
