“Will Play for India in a Year” — Coach and Captain Bet Big on 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi

At just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already carved out a place for himself in cricket headlines — from Under-19 dominance to a Ranji debut, and now stepping into the IPL 2025 arena with Rajasthan Royals. With his mature innings of 34 runs off 20 balls, the buzz around him is no longer just about potential — it's about imminent stardom.
But the biggest question now: When will Vaibhav wear the Team India jersey?
Coach’s Bold Prediction: "One Year From Now"
Vaibhav’s coach Manish Ojha, the man who has groomed him since his early cricketing days, believes the dream might turn into reality sooner than expected. Speaking to TV9 Hindi, he confidently said:
“If Vaibhav keeps playing the way he has started, he can make his India debut within the next year — especially in T20 cricket.”
It's a massive claim, considering Vaibhav’s age, but Ojha's earlier predictions — including Vaibhav getting IPL chances this season — have already come true.
Sanju Samson Echoes the Sentiment
Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson also seems convinced. He praised Vaibhav’s mindset and fearless approach, saying:
“He’s hitting sixes outside the academy ground. He’s full of confidence and looks ready. If he stays on this path, he can play for India in a year or two.”
Clearly, both the coach and captain see a prodigy in the making.
From Academy Nets to IPL Lights
Just a few months ago, the debate was whether Vaibhav would get any IPL game time in a team filled with stars. Coach Ojha had predicted he’d play 2-3 matches — and here he is, not only playing but making an impressive impact.
His fearless strokeplay, rapid scoring, and calm demeanor under pressure are traits usually expected from seasoned players — not from someone in their early teens.
The Road Ahead for Vaibhav
If he continues this rise:
- More IPL match time seems likely this season.
- A domestic white-ball debut for India A or in emerging tours could be next.
- And a T20I cap for India? If form and momentum continue, late 2025 or early 2026 doesn't seem far-fetched.
