The IPL has been buzzing with the rise of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a stunning debut by hitting a six on the very first ball of his IPL career. The young star's explosive innings of 34 runs off 20 balls caught everyone's attention, marking him as one of the most promising talents in the league. However, despite his early success, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has issued a word of caution to Vaibhav, suggesting that he might not make it to the next IPL season if he doesn't stay grounded.
Sehwag's Advice to Vaibhav: Focus on Longevity
While analyzing the match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sehwag emphasized that Suryavanshi should set his sights on building a long career, much like Virat Kohli, who has been part of the IPL since he was 19 and has played in all 18 seasons. Sehwag said, “Suryavanshi should aim to play for 20 years in the IPL. If he is happy with just the success of this IPL—thinking that he’s now a millionaire and his debut was amazing—then maybe we won’t see him next year."
Sehwag warned the young cricketer not to get carried away by his early success. He advised Vaibhav to remain focused and avoid thinking that one great performance would define his career. "If you think you’ll only get praised when you perform well and criticized when you don't, you'll stay grounded," Sehwag added.
Sehwag's Caution: Stay Humble and Patient
Sehwag shared an important lesson for budding cricketers: many players gain fame from a few good performances but fail to follow it up with consistent work. He cautioned Vaibhav against the mentality of thinking that becoming a star after a couple of matches means the hard work is over.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's IPL Journey
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.10 crore, becoming the youngest player in IPL history to become a millionaire. His IPL debut was nothing short of spectacular, scoring 34 runs off 20 balls at a strike rate of 170 against Lucknow Super Giants. However, his performance in the next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore was less impressive, as he could only manage 16 runs off 12 balls.
While the young player’s early career has been promising, Sehwag's message serves as a reminder that staying grounded and focusing on long-term goals is the key to a successful career in the highly competitive world of IPL.
