Why Has RCB Never Won an IPL Title? Former CSK-RCB Player Reveals the Biggest Reason

Despite being one of the most popular teams in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has not won a single title in 17 seasons. As IPL 2025 begins, former RCB and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Shadab Jakati has pointed out the key reasons behind RCB’s failure to clinch the trophy.

RCB’s Over-Reliance on a Few Players

According to Jakati, RCB has consistently focused on just 2-3 key players rather than building a strong, well-rounded team. He compared this to CSK’s winning formula, where both Indian and overseas players played as a cohesive unit. In an interview with Sportskeeda, Jakati stated, “IPL is a team game. To win a trophy, the entire squad must contribute. Relying on just a few stars won’t win you titles. During my time with RCB, the team was too dependent on a handful of players.”

Lack of Team Unity and Management Issues

Jakati also highlighted the difference in dressing room atmosphere between CSK and RCB. He claimed that while RCB had talented players, they lacked team bonding and coordination. “There was a clear disconnect between the players and the management. Unlike CSK, where the management and players had a great understanding, RCB struggled with unity.”

Can RCB Win IPL 2025 Under New Leadership?

For IPL 2025, RCB has appointed Rajat Patidar as their new captain. The key question is whether he will receive enough support from the entire squad. According to Jakati, RCB’s success depends on whether they can overcome their dependency on a few players and create a balanced, team-oriented approach. If they manage to address these issues, they could finally lift their maiden IPL trophy this season.
