Are banks closed nationwide?
No, there's no nationwide holiday. Rather, banks are closed in select states. Banks will remain closed only in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh today. Banks in Delhi, Mumbai, Bihar, and other states will remain open as normal today.

Why are banks closed?
August 25th is Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (Bara-Wafat), the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. It also marks the first Onam, or Thiruvonam. This is the reason for the bank holiday today.

Why is tomorrow a holiday?
Banks will be closed not just today, but tomorrow, August 26th. This holiday is also for Baravafat and Thiruvonam. But just as banks are closed today only in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, tomorrow, August 26th, banks will be closed in all cities except Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Gangtok, Guwahati, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kohima, Kolkata, Panaji, Shillong, and Shimla.
