Who is Abhinav who is fighting Allahabadia's case; How educated is the former CJI's son?

Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry into the Ranveer Allahabadia case. Earlier on Friday, Ranveer had approached the Supreme Court and appealed to collect all his cases. Former Chief Justice's son Abhivan Chandrachud is fighting Ranveer's case in the Supreme Court. 

Who is Abhinav Chandrachud: YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahabadia has approached the Supreme Court seeking to club together several FIRs registered against him across India over his controversial remarks during his appearance on the show 'India's Got Latent'. Allahabadia's petition was mentioned before a bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar on Friday. Ranveer's case in the Supreme Court is being fought by senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.

 

Supreme Court did not allow immediate hearing

During the hearing, Chandrachud urged the court to list the petition urgently, citing a summons issued by Assam Police asking Ranveer to appear for investigation on the same day. However, Chief Justice Khanna responded that the court does not allow oral mention for urgent hearing.

 

Maharashtra government took action

Apart from this, the Maharashtra government on Friday ordered an inquiry into the Ranveer Allahabadia controversy, specifically assigning the task of investigation to officials of the cultural department. The department, headed by minister Ashish Shelar, ordered an inquiry into the Ranveer Allahabadia controversy. This step has been taken after complaints were lodged about obscenity in "India's Got Latent" and other similar shows, which are running without proper permission.

According to the minister's office, the department had received complaints about obscenity in the show India's Got Latent and other such shows being run by giving tickets to the audience without proper permission. A meeting was called in the department under the chairmanship of Minister Ashish Shelar and he has ordered a detailed investigation after the meeting.

Who is Abhinav Chandrachud?

Abhinav Chandrachud is a renowned lawyer practising in the Bombay High Court. He holds a Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) and a Master of the Science of Law (JSM) degree from Stanford Law School, where he was a Franklin Family Scholar. Apart from his legal practice, Chandrachud has also written several books on constitutional law, judicial processes and legal history in India. His expertise in legal matters has made him a strong face in the legal fraternity.
