Amid surging tensions between India and Pakistan following the brutal terror strike in Pahalgam that left 26 dead, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has delivered a strong message to the nation and its adversaries: a decisive response is coming.
Speaking at an event in Delhi on Sunday, Singh declared, "It is my responsibility to give a befitting reply to those who dare to attack our country." He added, "I want to assure you that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, what you desire will certainly happen."
This statement comes at a time when diplomatic relations between the two neighbours are rapidly deteriorating. Top Indian leaders, including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh, have consistently pledged that the perpetrators and their supporters will not go unpunished.
Complete Freedom to Armed Forces
According to government sources, PM Modi has granted the Indian Armed Forces "complete operational freedom" to respond to the Pahalgam terror attack, mirroring India’s past decisive actions such as the 2016 surgical strikes post-Uri and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes after Pulwama.
PM Modi has vowed that “those responsible will be identified, tracked and punished beyond imagination.”
Pakistan on High Alert, Global Eyes on South Asia
With India's firm tone growing louder, Pakistan has responded by placing its armed forces and intelligence agencies on high alert. Islamabad has also reached out to the international community to defuse the mounting pressure and is warning India against any "misadventure."
Meanwhile, Singh has reiterated India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. “We will not only go after those who executed the attack but also those who plotted it from behind the scenes,” he warned.
With both nations reinforcing their military readiness and the global community urging restraint, the region stands at a tense crossroads — with the echoes of past retaliations looming large.
