Best Time to Check Blood Sugar: Ate paratha with morning tea, tasted a piece of sweet in the afternoon and ate fruit as soon as I came back from office in the evening. After that suddenly I thought of checking my sugar. But have you ever thought that the time when you check your blood sugar can prove its report to be right or wrong? Diabetes is not a common disease, but a condition which is deeply connected with time, food and lifestyle. Therefore, the time to check blood sugar is as important as its medicine or diet...

Fasting Blood Sugar Test

This is the most common and reliable test. In this, the person has to get a blood test done without eating or drinking anything overnight i.e. for at least 8 hours. This should preferably be done in the morning.

Postprandial blood sugar

This test is done exactly 2 hours after eating. Its purpose is to know how much sugar the body is able to process after eating. This can be done after breakfast or after lunch.

Random blood sugar test

This test can be done at any time of the day, whether you have eaten or not. It is done in an emergency or for a quick evaluation of diabetes.

HbA1c Test

This test tells you what your average blood sugar level has been in the last three months. Fasting is not required to get this done. This can be done once in 3 months.

Accuracy of time is very important in the management of diabetes. If blood sugar is checked at the wrong time, it can affect not only the report but also the treatment and choice of medicine. Therefore, always get the test done as per the doctor's advice and follow the prescribed time. Only the test done at the right time tells the correct sugar level.
