Seasonal Illness: Good sleep isn't just about the number of hours, but also the quality. They say that consistently getting less or less sleep weakens the body's immune system.
Why do people fall sick again and again?
Why Do People Fall Sick Frequently: As the weather changes, people often blame cold air, rain, heat or pollution for frequent cough, cold, sore throat and fatigue. But doctors say that weather is not always the real cause of illness. Many times, the problem lies in our daily habits, which gradually weaken the body from within. In today's fast-paced life, people have considered staying up late at night, skipping meals, constantly sitting in front of the screen and being stressed as normal. The body tolerates these habits for some time, but gradually its effect starts showing on the immunity. This is the reason why many people start falling sick again and again.
How does your immune system weaken?
According to Dr. Rashika, Consultant Pulmonologist at Apollo Hospitals, good sleep isn't just about the number of hours, but also the quality. She says that consistently poor or inadequate sleep weakens the body's immune system. Such individuals may suffer from frequent colds, coughs, and asthma. If a person wakes up frequently at night, snores, or uses their mobile phone for extended periods before bed, the body doesn't get the chance to recover properly.
What is the problem due to weak immune system?
Research by the US CDC also suggests that sleep deprivation can weaken immunity, as well as affect heart disease, obesity, and mental health. During deep sleep, the body repairs itself and produces infection-fighting proteins.
Does our lifestyle also play a role in this?
Experts say that poor eating habits are also making people sick more quickly. According to Dr. Rashika, people often skip meals or become overly dependent on processed and outside food. This deprives the body of essential nutrients. The body needs protein, iron, zinc, vitamins, fiber, and adequate water for strong immunity, but nowadays people are consuming more packaged foods, sugary snacks, and instant meals.
Disadvantages of drinking less water and staying indoors
A study by the National Institutes of Health also revealed that nutrition directly affects the immune system and inflammation levels in the body. Drinking too little water has also become a major problem. According to doctors, not drinking enough water thickens mucus in the body, which can increase the risk of infection. Doctors also believe that staying in closed rooms at home or office for long periods of time can also harm health. Viruses and allergens can persist for longer in air-conditioned rooms, dust, poor ventilation, and crowded indoor spaces.
