Water turns into steam in summer, but have you ever wondered why it rains in winter?

People generally know that in summer, the intense sunlight causes seawater to evaporate, forming clouds and then rain. But the reason for winter rain is quite different.

Why does it rain in winter?

The weather has taken a sudden turn in many parts of the country these days. Several areas of North India, including the capital Delhi, have experienced cold, light rain, and drizzle. In many places, temperatures have dropped after the rain, increasing both the cold and the frost. With the changing weather, people are beginning to wonder why water evaporates in summer, but why does it rain in winter? So, let us explain today why it rains in winter.

Generally, it is known that in summer, the intense sunlight causes seawater to evaporate, forming clouds, and then rain. However, the cause of winter rain is quite different. Rain in the winter is not directly related to the monsoon. According to meteorologists, the primary cause of winter rain is the Western Disturbance, a type of weather system that forms around the Mediterranean or the Caspian Sea. After the formation of a low-pressure area, this system moves from west to east and reaches north-west India. Due to the effect of this western disturbance, rain is seen in winter, snowfall in the mountains, and fog in the plains.

The effect of Western disturbance is increasing.

. Meteorologists of the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, conducted research a few years ago. According to which, the effect of western disturbance has increased in the last few years. The increase in temperature of the Tibetan Plateau and equatorial regions is considered to be one of the reasons behind this. Due to this, incidents of rain are being seen more in winter than before.

What effect does cold have?

Winter rain increases humidity and lowers temperatures. Both of these effects make the cold more severe. Especially in northern and central India, the cold increases after rain. This is why many people feel that the cold becomes more severe after the rain.
