Ajit Agarkar, who currently heads India's selection committee, received a short extension after his original tenure was set to end in June. His extended term is expected to conclude in September, prompting fresh speculation over who could take charge next.
Could VVS Laxman Replace Ajit Agarkar?
Earlier reports indicated that Agarkar's tenure might be extended until the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, recent reports suggest that the BCCI is evaluating other options, with VVS Laxman emerging as one of the leading candidates.
If appointed, Laxman would bring extensive international experience along with his strong understanding of India's cricket development system, having worked closely with young players over the past few years.
Expected Salary as Chief Selector
If VVS Laxman is appointed as India's chief selector, he is expected to receive an annual salary of around ₹3 crore.
The BCCI revised the salary structure for the chief selector three years ago, increasing the annual pay from ₹1 crore to ₹3 crore. Ajit Agarkar became the first chief selector to receive the revised compensation package.
As of now, there are no reports suggesting another salary revision, meaning the next chief selector is likely to continue under the existing pay structure.
