Wasim Jaffer's statement on Ajit Agarkar's policies

Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer has expressed his displeasure over Team India's selection process. Ajit Agarkar became the chief selector of Team India in 2023. Since then, India has won the T20 World Cup twice, the Champions Trophy once, and even reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, the team's performance in Test cricket has been disappointing.

Wasim Jaffer said that the number of trophies won by the Indian team in the last three years is a testament to the success of Agarkar's tenure. However, he did say that the lack of opportunities for some players is a debatable issue. He listed the names of Sarfaraz Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Abhimanyu Easwaran. Easwaran, who was selected for Team India for the first time in 2021, has yet to make his international debut even after five years.

Wasim Jaffer got angry.

"The way some players have been treated, the way some players have been selected, can become a topic of debate. There's no doubt about that. The names of Mohammed Shami, Sarfaraz Khan and Abhimanyu Easwaran keep coming up again and again," Wasim Jaffer said in a YouTube video.

Aaqib Nabi has been performing exceptionally well over the past two Ranji Trophy seasons. He made history by taking 60 wickets in the 2025-26 season. Despite this, he was not directly included in the squad. When Jasprit Bumrah was injured, Aaqib was brought in as a replacement. Jaffer expressed his displeasure over this issue as well.

He said, "Aaqib Nabi was not selected in the team initially, and even if he was selected, it was as a replacement. These are all things that have a negative impact on Ajit Agarkar's tenure. Why are players not being selected and why are players not being given clarity?"

Credit given to Jasprit Bumrah

Wasim Jaffer says that Jasprit Bumrah has played a significant role in Team India's success after 2023. He has been constantly injured, but Jaffer says that whenever Bumrah is part of the playing eleven, the opposing team is under more pressure.

Jasprit Bumrah missed the Champions Trophy 2025 due to injury. He suffered an injury during the recent ODI series against England, from which he has not yet recovered. Bumrah has also been ruled out of the Sri Lanka Test series due to knee pain and a strain. Aaqib Nabi has been selected as his replacement.
