In a recent national skills assessment, students from Uttar Pradesh have emerged as frontrunners in Maths, Computer Skills, and Critical Thinking, placing them at the top of the employability index for several key competencies. The ETS Wheebox Global Employability Test (GET) 2025, designed to evaluate skill readiness among youth, has placed UP students ahead of their peers across India—except in English, where they still lag slightly behind.
Maths and Computer Skills: UP Takes the Lead
According to the report, a remarkable 80% of UP youth demonstrated strong proficiency in Maths and Computer Applications. This performance has catapulted the state to the No. 1 position in Maths, surpassing Andhra Pradesh, which came in second. Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Telangana followed closely.
In Computer Skills, UP also leads the pack, ahead of Kerala and Maharashtra. These results reflect a growing focus on STEM education and digital literacy in the state.
Critical Thinking: A New Strength
Perhaps most impressive is UP's performance in critical thinking, a vital skill in today’s job market. The state ranked first, followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. This suggests that UP students are not only technically proficient but also equipped with the reasoning abilities needed for complex problem-solving.
English Proficiency: Room for Improvement
Despite their strengths, students from UP ranked third in English proficiency, behind Maharashtra and Karnataka. While the ranking still places them in the top three, it also highlights an area for improvement if UP is to truly dominate the national skill landscape.
Employment Rankings: UP Youth on Top
The report also explored employability across age groups:
- Among youth aged 18–21, UP ranked first in employment.
- For the 22–25 age group, UP again secured top position, followed by Kerala and Punjab.
- However, for the 26–29 age group, Gujarat took the lead, with Maharashtra second and UP third.
Final Takeaway
The 2025 GET report clearly shows that Uttar Pradesh is producing a generation of youth equipped with essential skills for the modern workforce. While English remains a relative weakness, the state's dominance in technical and cognitive abilities bodes well for its future economic contribution.
