Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially announced that the existing mAadhaar app will soon be discontinued. Users who currently rely on the app for Aadhaar-related digital services may eventually lose access to those features once the old application is phased out.
To replace the outgoing platform, UIDAI has launched a brand-new Aadhaar app designed to offer a faster, smarter, and more secure digital experience. The updated app is now available for both Android and iPhone users through their respective app stores.
The move is part of UIDAI’s broader effort to modernize Aadhaar services and strengthen digital security for millions of Indian users.
Why UIDAI Is Replacing the mAadhaar App
Aadhaar has become one of the most important identity documents in India. It is widely used for:
- Opening bank accounts
- Getting SIM cards
- School and college admissions
- Government services
- Identity verification
As Aadhaar usage continues to grow, UIDAI says the new app has been developed to improve user convenience while also offering stronger security protections.
The authority confirmed that the older mAadhaar app will eventually stop functioning, and users are being encouraged to shift to the new Aadhaar app as early as possible to avoid service disruptions.
Key Features of the New Aadhaar App
UIDAI says the updated application comes with several advanced features focused on privacy, security, and accessibility.
QR-Based Aadhaar Sharing
One of the biggest additions is secure QR code-based Aadhaar sharing.
With this feature, users can safely share Aadhaar details through QR codes without revealing unnecessary personal information. This reduces the risk of oversharing sensitive data during identity verification.
Selective Data Sharing Option
The new app introduces a Selective Share feature, allowing users to choose exactly which Aadhaar details they want to share.
Users can selectively share:
- Name
- Photograph
- Age
- Gender
- Mobile number
- Address
- Aadhaar verification status
This feature gives users more control over their personal information and improves privacy during verification processes.
Offline Identity Verification
Another major upgrade is offline identity verification.
The app can reportedly verify identity even without internet connectivity. This feature may prove especially useful in areas with weak network coverage or during situations where internet access is limited.
Enhanced Biometric Security
The updated Aadhaar app also includes stronger biometric protection tools.
Users can directly lock or unlock:
- Fingerprint authentication
- Facial recognition authentication
- Iris authentication
This helps prevent misuse of Aadhaar-linked biometric data. If required, users can later remove these locks through the app itself.
Support for Multiple Indian Languages
UIDAI says the new Aadhaar app supports 13 Indian languages, making it more accessible for users across different regions of the country.
The multilingual support is expected to improve usability for people who prefer regional language interfaces while accessing digital Aadhaar services.
Existing Users May Need to Reconfigure Profiles
UIDAI has not yet confirmed whether data from the old mAadhaar app will automatically transfer to the new Aadhaar app.
As a result, existing users may need to:
- Download the updated app
- Re-enter Aadhaar details
- Manually set up their profile again
Users are advised to keep their registered mobile number active during the setup process for OTP-based verification.
Where to Download the New Aadhaar App
The updated Aadhaar app is now available on both major mobile platforms:
- Android users can download it from the Google Play Store
- iPhone users can install it through the Apple App Store
Users Advised to Switch Early
UIDAI has advised users to migrate to the new Aadhaar app soon to continue accessing Aadhaar services without interruption.
With upgraded privacy tools, offline verification support, biometric controls, and selective data sharing, the new app appears to focus heavily on giving users better security and more control over their digital identity information.
As digital identity systems continue to evolve in India, the launch of the new Aadhaar app marks another major step toward safer and more user-friendly Aadhaar services.
