Trump Tariff: 'America is not at war with every country in the world,' US Supreme Court bluntly tells Trump on tariffs

In a major blow to President Donald Trump, the US Supreme Court has denied him the authority to impose tariffs, declaring such decisions illegal.

US President Donald Trump has been dealt a blow by the US Supreme Court.

US President Donald Trump has suffered a major setback from the US Supreme Court. The Supreme Court issued strong remarks, calling Trump's tariffs illegal. The court sent a clear message to Trump, stating that the US is not at war with every country in the world. Furthermore, the Supreme Court stated that imposing tariffs is the authority of Congress, not the jurisdiction of the President.

What has the US Supreme Court said in its decision?

US Chief Justice John Roberts stated in his decision that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not grant the president the authority to impose tariffs. He also addressed several key points in his decision.

The Supreme Court said that they should get the authority for this from Congress

In its decision, the Supreme Court stated that the President had unilaterally claimed excessive power to impose tariffs of unlimited amount, duration, and scope. Given the constitutional and historical basis of that authority, he should have obtained authorization from Congress.

Trump has no such authority: the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court said that the government thus believes, as it should, that the President of the United States has no authority to impose tariffs during peacetime.

"The court does not defend the challenged tariffs by citing the power to wage war."

The Supreme Court stated that it does not defend the challenged tariffs as an exercise of the president's war-making powers. Furthermore, the Court stated in its decision that the United States is not at war with every country in the world. The challenged tariffs are unlimited in scope, amount, and duration.
