Varanasi: On January 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the Ganga Vilas vessel, which is going from Kashi to Dibrugarh on the longest journey on the river waterway. The vessel left for Varanasi on Sunday evening via Ghazipur via Nagwan Ganga Ghat in Chandauli, but due to bad weather and fog, it was stopped near Nagwan Pump Canal near Raipur village in Chandauli. Chandauli police along with water police and Ghazipur police have been deployed across the Ganges for security. The vessel moved ahead on Monday morning as soon as the fog cleared.

When it reached near Hameed Setu of Razaganj Chowki area in Ghazipur late Saturday evening, the high officials welcomed the tourists. On Sunday morning, all the tourists came to see the tomb of Lord Cornwallis built-in Gora Bazar of Ghazipur. After this everyone left for Varanasi by road from here. Here they visited Sarnath. The cruise also left for Varanasi. Foreign tourists will also be welcomed at Ravidas Ghat.

Flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cruise will enter the Bangladesh border via Ganga via Patna and Kolkata and then cover a distance of over 3200 km to Dibrugarh. Meanwhile, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the need to develop cruise tourism in New Delhi, saying that the development of this sector would create employment opportunities in the hinterland. The government is making the capital expenditure for the success of river cruise tourism in the country. Said that riverine tourism circuits would be developed and integrated with existing tourism circuits for maximum exposure and rapid development of the sector.
