Pahalgam is a town and notified area located in Anantnag district of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is also the headquarters of the tehsil of the same name and is situated on the banks of the Lidder River, 45 km from Anantnag. Pahalgam is a popular tourist destination and hill station. It is also an important stop on the Amarnath Yatra. Thousands of tourists from all over the world come here every year.
Pahalgam is famous for its coniferous forests. It is located at a distance of 95 km from Srinagar and is surrounded by dense forests, beautiful lakes and flower meadows. The best time to visit here is June to October, December and January for snow. From here one can visit Betaab and Aru valleys, horse riding, canoeing, etc.
Although Pahalgam is more famous for being the base camp of Amarnath Yatra, but if you want to go here for a holiday, then it is also an ideal place. Being situated at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level, the weather here is always cool. Here you are amidst nature, away from the crowd of the city. If you want, you can spend your whole day sitting on the banks of the Lidder River or you can also do adventure activities like rafting, paragliding, trekking.
Pahalgam is 95 km from Srinagar and the route goes through Anantnag. From Anantnag to Pahalgam, one goes along the Lidder River. The Lidder River originates from the Sheshnag Lake and meets the Jhelum River near Anantnag via Chandanwadi, Pahalgam. Rafting is done in this Lidder River, which passes through high mountains and dense forests on all sides.
If you are going to Pahalgam, then you must stay for at least 2 days. The first day to get rid of the fatigue of the journey and the second day to roam around. There are many beautiful places around Pahalgam, among which Aadu Valley, Betaab Valley, Chandanwadi and Baisaran are prominent.
