Kashi Khand was known as 'Anand Van' in :
Near Shultankeshwar Mahadev Temple (Rohaniya Varanasi), the Ganga enters Kashi after passing through Uttaravahini. The priest of the temple, Rajendra Giri, tells that Madhav Rishi had established the Shivling for the worship of Shiva before the descent of the Ganges. At this place, Lord Shiva stopped the speed of Ganga with his trident and took a promise from her that she would flow touching Kashi. Along with this, any devotee who bathes in the Ganga in Kashi will not be harmed by aquatic creatures. When Ganga accepted both promises, Shiva removed his Trishul. This place was known as 'Anand Van' in Kashi Khand. It is also called the South Gate of Kashi.
History of the Temple:
It is believed that at the time of Ganga's descent, Lord Shiva started worrying about the safety of Kashi. He had stopped the speed of Ganga by burying his Trishul here. That's why his name was Shooltankeshwar. In Dwapar, Brahma established the Shivling of Veereshwar Mahadev here. Shooltankeshwar sitting in the south direction protects this city from calamities. Later, it was given the form of a small temple by a royal family, which was expanded by the local people in the 1980s.
